Purchase Order – Franklin County General Authority, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania

Charleston, SC, September 22, 2011 – EnviroMix announced today that its compressed gas mixing technology combined with coarse bubble aeration will be used as part of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) upgrade at the Franklin County General Authority (FCGA) WWTP, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. The FCGA WWTP, which services the Letterkenny Army Depot and the Cumberland Valley Business Park, was originally constructed in the 1970s. Century Engineering of New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, was contracted to address facility modernization, redundancy requirements, sludge handling efficiency, and compliance with Chesapeake Bay nutrient removal requirements.

At the FCGA WWTP, the existing circular “package” wastewater treatment tanks will be repurposed as pre-equalization, surge, and digester tanks. Located in the outer ring of the old tankage, the separate pre-equalization and surge tanks will provide diurnal and storm flow equalization, respectively. A new digester, providing additional capacity for the new biological treatment process, will be contained in the inner tank of the old package plant. EnviroMix will provide coarse bubble aeration for all three compartments as well as its BioMix compressed gas mixing system for the pre-equalization tank. The new BioMix system is expected to be utilized exclusively for the pre-equalization tank due to its lack of oxygen transfer, needed to retain carbon in the wastewater for subsequent advanced nutrient removal biological processes.

Tammie Myers, Senior Civil Engineer for Century Engineering, states, “The mixing requirements of the toroidal pre-equalization tank, the lack of oxygen transfer of the BioMix system, and the multi-tank system responsibility afforded by EnviroMix made their technology the proper choice. The BioMix system also provides the necessary compressed air for the biological treatment process valves.”

The EnviroMix systems are expected to be operational by June, 2012. Stuart Humphries, EnviroMix Director of Sales, states, “This is an excellent example of our engineered mixing and aeration system, further demonstrating our capabilities in the wastewater market.”
